Monster Rope (Heavy Rope)
Upcycled. Repurposed. Handmade in the Bronx.
Every Monster Rope begins its life as retired climbing rope.
While climbing ropes have a limited lifespan for safety reasons, many still have years of durability left in them. Rather than seeing that material discarded, Grassroots Fitness Project co-founder Wil Rivera saw an opportunity to give it a second life.
Working from his Bronx workshop, Wil carefully selects retired climbing ropes and hand-braids each Monster Rope individually. He taught himself the braiding techniques needed to create a rope that swings smoothly, performs consistently, and can withstand years of training. He also designed, engineered, and welds the handles himself, creating a durable training tool built to last.
No two ropes are exactly alike.
Each Monster Rope is part of a larger mission: repurposing materials that would otherwise be thrown away and transforming them into functional fitness equipment.
